Expected Physical Changes with Estrogen HRT

Each and every body is different, and the effects of estrogen HRT (and anti-androgens or progesterone, if also taking) are just as unique per body. Lower doses correlated to slower changes, and higher doses correlate with faster changes, though exact timing depends on the person!

The main changes expected with estrogen HRT

  • Softening of the skin
  • Thinning or slowed hair growth on face and body

  • Decreased libido (sex drive)*
  • Decreased spontaneous erections*
  • Change in sexual function (less firm erections)**
  • Decreased sperm production/reduced fertility**
  • Decreased testicular volume (By 25-50%) after being on estradiol long-term (even in absence of T-blocker)
  • Stopping of hair-loss on head if taking DHT blocker

*more common if also Testosterone-blocking agent
**if taking a testosterone-blocking agent

Again, each and every body is different, and these changes don’t map exactly the same from person to person. How slowly or quickly these changes occur depend greatly on the individual person on. With the different routes and dosages of estrogen, there are a lot of ways to find the one that fits best for each individual body.
