How Pricing Works at FOLX Health

We’ve all been there. Needing to get care for something that’s been bothering you but not knowing how much it might cost to get treated. Not understanding exactly how to use insurance to get care. Not knowing how much you will need to pay for care is frustrating. That’s why at FOLX, we strive to give you as much information as we can.

Now, we’re not going to say we will always know exactly how much you will pay for everything. For example, medication costs can vary widely depending on the dose, or whether or not you have insurance. But what we can tell you is that we will be upfront and transparent about all of the costs we do know, and when we can’t tell you an exact number, we’ll let you know that, too.

We’re first going to lay out the out-of-pocket costs (this is what you would expect to pay without any insurance). Then, we’ll get into the details of insurance.

The ins and outs of pricing at FOLX

Membership Fee

$25/month (when paid yearly) or $39.99/month

All FOLX members pay a membership fee for access to our services. This gives you access to all member benefits, including the ability to book and see an LGBTQIA+ expert clinician within a few days, message with your clinical team (including nurses and medical assistants) and our Member Navigation team for questions or referrals, prescriptions sent to our partner pharmacy for delivery right to your door (or we can send to your local pharmacy), access to our FOLX Community Platform to connect with others and explore resources, support groups, and more.

Visits

$159 initial visit / $79 follow-up visit (primary care, including GAHT)

$129/visit (1-1 therapy in select states)

You’ll pay a fee for each visit with a clinician. This fee is higher for the initial consultation ($159), and then each follow-up visit is $79 (with the exception of therapy). See below for how you may be able to use your insurance for visits. You can see a clinician about gender-affirming care, primary and preventive care, sexual and reproductive health care, and mental health care (depression and anxiety medication management is available through primary care, and we also offer 1-1 therapy in select states).

Medications

Cost varies

The cost varies based on the medication(s) you are taking and which dosages. We have discounted rates from our FOLX pharmacy and you can get your meds delivered. See pricing details for the FOLX pharmacy here

You can also use your local pharmacy, with insurance (see below for details), or check out GoodRx for coupons if you don’t have insurance.

Labs

$29-47 (for GAHT)

Lab work for folks on gender-affirming hormone therapy are typically done 1-2 times per year, depending on your medical needs. You will pay our FOLX discounted rate for your labs.

Let’s talk about insurance

In-network insurance with FOLX

FOLX works with select insurance companies in order to provide lower costs to you. We refer to these as in-network with FOLX. We are continuing to add more in-network insurance plans all the time. To see the full list, check out our FAQ.

If you have one of the insurance plans listed above, here’s the pricing you can expect:

  • Membership Fee: $39.99/month or $299/year (not covered by insurance)
  • Visits: copay or coinsurance for your insurance plan (this is generally around $15-30)
  • Medications: Cost varies based on medication and dose. You can either use your insurance at a local pharmacy to pay your insurance prescription copay (check with your insurance to get exact costs), or we have discounted rates from our FOLX pharmacy (and we deliver!).
  • Labs: We have discounted rates on labs at Quest. Basic GAHT labs range from $29-47. You can also use your insurance to pay for labs.

Other insurance plans

You may be saying, what if I have insurance, but it’s not one of the in-network insurance plans above? While you won’t be able to use your insurance for visits with FOLX, you can still use it for medication at your local pharmacy. In this case, here’s what you should expect:

  • Membership Fee: $39.99/month or $299/year (not covered by insurance)
  • Visits: $159 initial visit / $79 follow up visit
  • Medications: Cost varies based on medication and dose. You can either use your insurance at a local pharmacy to pay your insurance prescription copay (check with your insurance to get exact costs), or we have discounted rates from our FOLX pharmacy (and we deliver!).
  • Labs: We have discounted rates on labs at Quest. Basic GAHT labs range from $29-47.

We know this is a lot of information, but we want to make sure you have all the facts so you can make an informed decision about your care. If you’re unsure how much you might expect to pay over the course of a year, try to think through how many appointments you might need, how many medication refills you might need, etc. We’ve found that with our model, most members end up paying less throughout the year than through a traditional doctor’s office for the same services.
