At FOLX, we care for your whole self. A huge part of feeling good and healthy is taking care of your mental health. This can look different for everyone, whether it be working with a therapist, taking medication to treat mental health conditions, finding support from friends or family, or just taking time for your own self-care. Whatever this looks like for you, FOLX can support you in a variety of ways, all as part of a FOLX membership.
Here are 5 ways FOLX can help support your mental health:
1. Medication management
We provide holistic primary care, and treatment for anxiety, depression, and insomnia are a part of that. You can transfer a prescription you already have to your FOLX care or have a conversation with your clinician about starting a new medication. Whether or not you’ve been treated before for these conditions, our clinicians are here to help you figure out the best course of action for you. They can also help you identify and manage underlying factors that can contribute to these conditions. If your mental health needs are out of scope for a primary care clinician, we are happy to help you find someone who would meet your needs.
2. Individual therapy
We offer 1:1 therapy with expert, affirming clinicians who offer care without judgment, no matter who you are or how you identify. Our therapists are all part of the LGBTQIA+ community and have extensive experience working within it. See where we offer therapy here (more states being added all the time!). If you’re interested in therapy and are not in one of the states where we offer therapy, let us know of your interest by filling out this 1-minute survey.
3. Community support
Through our FOLX Community Platform, we provide members with a variety of ways to connect with themselves and with each other. Research shows that feeling safe and understood in at least one online space is associated with better mental health and lower rates of recent anxiety for LGBTQ+ people. The tools and resources we bring you are ones that have been shown to be helpful or that we’ve found personally helpful to our health as members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Chat with Other Members
Engage with other FOLX members through chat. Want to meet folks going through a similar journey? Have questions or need advice from other folks with similar identities or health conditions? Join in the conversation and feel a sense of community.
Support Groups
Peer support groups take place on a regular basis and are a way to connect in real-time with other FOLX members. Currently, there are support groups for trans and nonbinary folks, with more groups coming soon!
Live Chat Events
We hold various events via live chat based around different topics. This is a chance for folks to interact with a healthcare professional or an expert on a specific topic. Some examples include live chats with FOLX therapists or a discussion around coming out at work with HR professionals.
Creative Events
Creative events include a wide variety of interactive activities to help you get in touch with yourself. Some examples include activity workshops like filling out your health goals, live meditations, art workshops, and writing workshops.
4. Resources
We provide a variety of resources to help guide you in your journey. For example, you can use our self-injection guide to get you feeling more at ease when taking your shot. Or read our trans joy guide for inspiration and support as you find yourself and your identity. Other resources include information for folks taking testosterone or estrogen, resources for coming out or being out at work, coming out to your family, and more. We also have guided meditations and other videos. These resources are always available for you to refer to and go through at your own pace.
5. Care team support
Our care team is here to help you with many parts of your care and membership, and they can support your mental health, too. You can reach out with any questions you might have, get referrals to affirming mental health specialists (if we can’t treat you through FOLX, or you’re looking for in-person therapy), and provide any information you might need to feel comfortable and confident in your health care.
Injection Trainings
We’ve got injection training recordings, shot parties for a sense of community when you do your shot, and live events with our nurses to talk you through doing your shot and answer any questions you might have. Whether you need help doing your first shot or have anxiety about doing your 100th shot, we can help put you at ease.
New Member Q&As
These are regular Q&As for new members where you can interact with a member of the FOLX team and get your questions answered. You can ask anything about FOLX, about what services or medications we offer, how refills work, etc!
In summary, here at FOLX, we provide so much more than traditional healthcare. Our membership offers ways to care for your physical body, mental health, and overall well-being. We’re all cheering you on, from your clinician to your Member Navigators and from the entire care team to your peers or fellow members. We’re here to support you in your journey and help you live your healthiest, most authentic life.
